The Board of Directors

September 2025 - September 2027

The board of directors elected at the September 13, 2025 Annual General Meeting are looking forward to serving our community throughout our 2-year term. Key priorities identified during the election include:

(1) including members in governance updates;

(2) refreshing the bylaws;

(3) finding a new home for FVMA.

We know that it takes more than board members to implement programs and we look forward to you choosing your own participation adventure.

Tracey Good

President

Tracey brings a wealth of experience, heart, and deep commitment to community.

In her previous role as Interim Director at Large, she had the honor of listening, learning, & walking alongside community members during a time of change and reflection.

Guided by her Métis roots that trace back to the Red River Valley in the late 1700s, Tracey’s journey has been one of reconnection and pride. Though she didn’t grow up naming it “Métis,” her family’s way of life—filled with community gatherings, music, food, and kinship—was deeply rooted in culture. Reclaiming that identity has strengthened her resolve to help others find belonging and pride in their heritage.

A mother, grandmother, and long-time public servant, Tracey has served in diverse roles, including as a Community Integration Specialist in Abbotsford, as well as in the Navy, corrections, and foster care. These experiences have shaped her belief that true leadership means showing up with integrity, listening deeply, and lifting others up.

Tracey is dedicated to fostering a strong, accountable, and culturally grounded FVMA. She envisions a future where every member feels connected, valued, and proud of their Métis identity—a future built on healing, trust, and shared purpose.

With respect and hope, Tracey continues to lead FVMA forward—strengthening identity, culture, and community every step of the way.

Tarina Colledge

Vice President

Tarina is dedicated to strengthening community connection, governance, and cultural continuity for future generations. A proud Red River Métis descendant, her lineage traces to families who helped shape the early Métis Nation in Rupert’s Land.

Her grandfather, Robert Thomas Smith, was the son of Thomas Ashton Smith of St. Eustache and Marie-Rose Morrissette. Marie-Rose was the daughter of Hudson’s Bay Company employee François Morrissette and Philomène Favel, descendant of John James Favel and Isabelle Elizabeth Short of St. François Xavier in the historic Red River Settlement. Tarina’s line extends to Thomas Favell and Sarah Pa-Sa Trout, and to Titameg Whitefish Savagasse and John Humphrey Favel Jr.—families rooted in the early fur trade and Métis homelands along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.

Tarina and her husband are raising three sons grounded in the values of kinship, resilience, and cultural pride.

A Disaster and Emergency Management professional, Tarina advances community preparedness and resilience. She has served in leadership and advisory roles across Canada, championing collaboration and capacity-building.

A governance and policy enthusiast with a passion for systems thinking, she is committed to strengthening effective, transparent governance within the FVMA so members have a strong voice in shaping their collective future.

Guided by kinship, reciprocity, and service, Tarina honors her ancestors by fostering unity and cultural pride within today’s Métis community. She is honored to serve and carry forward the enduring spirit of her Red River ancestors.

These are subjects that she has been passionate about for most of her adult life, along with Astronomy, Data and other forms of storytelling, as a passionate storyteller herself.

“I have always been surrounded by my Métis family, elders and community, having 3 Métis grandparents, and thousands of relatives. I descend from Jean-Baptiste Lagimodière, grandfather to Louis Riel, but I began to truly understand what being Métis meant as a young adult exploring the Red River area. I took a class in Métis history at the U of M and got seriously interested. I grew up visiting the places and families from those stories. My eyes were opened to my rich ancestral history and Métis culture woven into every aspect of who I am. I’ve been consuming so much Métis history and cultural content ever since.” – Jen S

Dawn Johnson

Treasurer

Dawn was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, and traces her Métis roots through her mother’s side of the family. Her ancestors are Ojibwe, part of the larger Anishinaabe cultural group.

She is the proud mother of one daughter and grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren who live in Newfoundland. While she is grateful for FaceTime to stay connected until she can visit, she dearly misses being part of their day-to-day lives.

Dawn spent many years managing her family’s commercial printing business before making a significant career change into women’s health and fitness. She worked in that field until retiring in 2013.

After moving to British Columbia, Dawn reconnected with her Métis culture, embracing it with pride and being welcomed with open arms. She has had the honor of serving her Métis community as President, as well as in several other board positions.

Throughout her life’s journey, Dawn has come to deeply value her Métis heritage, keeping it close to her heart so she can pass along the teachings she has received from Elders while continuing to learn. Her aspiration is to remain connected to her culture, contribute what she has learned, and give back to her community.

Dawn is forever grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and share as she continues walking this path.
