FVMAs 6th Annual Métis Strong Youth Summer Camp 2024 – A Resounding Success!

Posted by FVMA

The Fraser Valley Métis Association (FVMA) proudly hosted the 6th Annual Métis Strong Youth Summer Camp from July 19 to 22, 2024. This year’s camp brought together a vibrant group of young Métis individuals to celebrate their heritage, learn traditional skills, and forge lifelong friendships.

Held in the scenic landscape of the Mamele’awt Indigenous Education Centre, the camp featured a diverse range of activities designed to engage and inspire the youth. Highlights included archery and wheelchair sports thanks to ISPARC, hands-on workshops such as paper dragons with Emma M., rawhide rattle making with Noelle, bracelet making with Jen, and much more.

A significant aspect of this year’s camp was the emphasis on community and cultural connections. Participants enjoyed collaborative group activities, including the creation of a stunning chalk mural and the preparation of traditional foods. The camp also featured activities that emphasized on the importance of preserving Métis traditions and values, fostering a sense of unity through collaboration and pride among the Youth.

One of the standout moments was the movie night, where we gathered together to watch a family movie while enjoying delicious snacks. Later the large blow up screen and projector set the perfect back drop for presenting our paper dragons (check out the photos below)

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, organizers, and participants who made this event a remarkable success. Your dedication and passion for Métis culture shone brightly throughout the camp.
