June 21, 2024: Community Update on Data Breach

Posted by FVMA

Tansi FVMA Community,

We wish to inform you that we have confirmed the data breach involving unauthorized access to our systems by a group of individuals. We take this matter very seriously and are committed to maintaining the highest security standards for our members and the community.

We are grateful for the swift assistance provided by Envision First West Credit Union, which has been invaluable during this investigation. Their team conducted a thorough analysis of the breach and has provided us with their findings, which confirmed that unauthorized access occurred.

In their investigation letter, Envision First West Credit Union stated:

…resulted in the former signer having unauthorized online banking access between April 6, 2023 and April 14, 2024. A review of online banking access logs showed that the former signer used their unauthorized online banking access between April 24, 2023 and April 12, 2024.

We encourage all members to remain vigilant and monitor their accounts for any unusual activity. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this situation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at fraservalleymetisassociation@gmail.com.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time.

We are committed to resolving this issue and ensuring the safety and security of our community.

Sincerely,
~Kelly Penner

September 24, 2024 Matriarch Circle Update – Volunteers Keep Cultural Connections Strong Despite Limited Resources

Posted by FVMA

September 2024 Update:

Our volunteers have been working tirelessly to ensure that our community continues to have opportunities to connect, celebrate, and grow together. With limited resources, we have had to pause FVMA’s weekly Matriarch Circle, but we remain committed to offering other regular cultural events that bring us closer.

Currently, we continue to host FVMA’s annual weekly fiddle lessons, weekly drum circle, monthly potlucks, and artisan markets. These events provide a space for learning, creativity, and community building, helping to keep our cultural traditions alive.

In addition to FVMA’s ongoing programs, we’re excited to highlight special events such as the recent Terry Fox Run in Abbotsford, where the community came together to support an important cause. Despite challenges, we are proud to maintain these vibrant cultural offerings and look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.

Stay connected with us, and marsi thank you for your continued support of FVMA!

September 15, 2024 – Successful Terry Fox Run Event Raises $3,000!

Posted by FVMA

The Fraser Valley Métis Association (FVMA) is excited to share the success of Abbotsford’s Terry Fox Run, which took place on September 15, 2024, at Mill Lake. We are proud to announce that together, we helped raise $3,000 for cancer research!

The event began with a heartfelt opening by Ronald Modeste from Sumas First Nation, followed by inspiring words from Dean Gladue, MNBC’s Minister of Sports and Active Living and some words and a song from FVMA Vice President and President. A special thanks goes out to ISPARC for leading a lively warm-up and stretching session to get everyone ready for the walk/roll/run.

Participants enjoyed the beautiful 2.5 km walk around Mill Lake, with some motivated individuals completing over 4 laps!

We want to give a special shoutout to our eldest runner, who impressed us all at 82 years old!

Everyone was delighted by the delicious food provided by Wingerz, which helped fuel our day of fun and community connection.

We extend our gratitude to Métis Nation BC, ISPARC, Wingerz, First Aid Attendants, the Abbotsford Canucks, and all the incredible volunteers who made the event run smoothly.

Thank you to everyone in the community who came out to support this meaningful cause.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!
